What Is Tae Kwon Do?

Tae kwon Do is “The Korean Martial Art!”. and is sometimes referred to as “Korean Karate”

It is based upon the ancient styles of hand and foot fighting of “Taek Kyon” and “Soo Bak”
and is similar in many respects to the Japanese style of “Karate".

A rough translation of Tae Kwon Do is:
        The way of the foot,
        The way of the hand,
        The way of the art.

What is the T.A.G.B.?

The T.A.G.B. is Britain’s largest Tae Kwon-Do organisation

Is it expensive?

No:

Your first lesson is free of any charge.
After that fees are based upon a per lesson or a monthly basis.
In addition, there are substantial discounts for families and students.
Further reductions are possible if paying by standing order,
or get two months free training when paying, in advance, for 1 years training.

Have I got to be fit?

No:

Training is progressive, both physically and with technique.
It is assumed that new students fitness level is not high.
However the physical benefits of training  very quickly become apparent.

Do I need a uniform to start?

No:

Wear anything that is comfortable (e.g. a tee shirt/leggings, tracksuit e.t.c.)
If you wish to take gradings then a uniform can be purchased from us.

Will I get hurt?

No:

In the T.A.G.B. we pride ourselves with offering a safe & effective form of Self-Defence.
The T.A.G.B. has the best record of safety within the British Tae Kwon Do Council.

Am I too old?

No:

We have no upper age limit.
But children must be over 6 years old.

Do I have to take gradings and belts?

No:

Self-defence is, unfortunately, a necessary skill in today’s society.
Anyone is welcome to come and train in the basics of the art and enjoy the benefits of fitness,
improved flexibility, improved self-confidence, relaxation and co-ordination.
There will be no compulsion or pressure placed upon any student of the art to attempt any examination.
The gradings are all done by an external examiner.
They are there to set achievable goals for students
and a formal system of recognition of hard work, effort and achievement.
Unlike other arts your highest colour belt grading costs the same as your lowest.
All one price!

Why not give it a try?

Introduction to controlled non-contact and semi-contact sparring
& varied routines designed to develop timing, distance, focus, balance,
reaction and co-ordination skills.
