History

1943: Walton Community Centre was built by The Ministry of Works to serve as a " War Workers" Recreation Centre for those employed at the nearby Munitions Factory. Activities were controlled by a Committee of local residents.

1964: The freehold was transferred to Staffs County Council and the Walton Community Association was registered as a charity. It was under direct control of the Director of Education. A full time warden was employed to run the Association and both his salary and all repairs were paid for by Staffordshire County Council.

1975: The Chairman's Hall was erected and paid for by the Ministry of Education, Staffs County Council and Walton Community Association.

1982: The County Council cut off all funding for the centre and since then the Association has relied on voluntary workers and a centre manager, who have made it the success it is today.

1990: The freehold was passed from the County to the Borough, who gave a grant of £100,000 and a further £25,000 was raised by the Association and a loan for £25,000 to be repaid by the Association. The loan was paid for with fund raising events over the next five years. This money was used to build the Presidents Hall.

1998: An extension to the Presidents Hall was added through fund raising and a grant from the lottery of £90,000 and this is where the children's nursery operates from.
